| 1996 - 1998, Toyota 4Runner Just what the Dr. ordered. You've probably seen this spoiler lurking around the
website, installed on Jason Burtman's 4Runner. Now available to all Burtman Industries customers and is one ~hot~ add-on! Replaces your
stock 96-98 plastic valance with a new custom front lip spoiler and lights.
Attaches below stock front bumper and brings new life to your 4Runner!
Spoiler comes primed in either flat black, or grey and requires painting. Made
from durable lightweight fiberglass. If your 4Runner has stock fog lights now, you
can use factory fog wiring if you already have them.
The lights for the spoiler are actually high beam headlights out of German VW
Passats. They are "driving lights", not fog lights. These types of lights are
normally aimed 6 inches lower than your high beams. These lights are designed to
be used with your high beams. Most customers aim them low like fog lights. These
lights are as bright or brighter than your current high beams!
1) The least expensive way to paint your spoiler would be to have it painted like
the rest of the body. This will give it a smooth finish, but also a very brittle
finish. Thus, it will be more prone to chipping. An additional step, which we offer if you choose our paint option, would be
to have
flexible or elastic additives added before painting, which some call a stone/rock guard coating. This is what is on your urethane cladding and trim now. This will make your spoiler less prone to chips. This will sometimes give your spoiler a very slight "orange peel" finish, and it will be even more chip resistant.
2) If you don't have the factory fog lights, you will have to do the wiring. To
wire it up you can tap into the wires as they leave the steering column to enter
the main wiring harness. Just run a new wire between whichever system you
select (low or high beam, or both which some choose, (this requires an extra
relay), and switch for the driving lights. You can use a circuit tester
to confirm the bright headlight wire or the low headlight wire and splice
the driving light switch into it. When you take the lower dash panel off
look for three red wires on the left side of the steering column. In most,
the colors do match the ones at the headlights, but this may not hold true
for every model year. Make sure you test the wires with a
circuit tester before splicing so you know you have the correct lead.
