| Ordered mine on Monday, it arrived on Wednesday...great shipping!
I installed it this evening, set to Green 9 and took a spin. WOW!! It really shines during part-throttle acceleration from cruising speed, e.g. passing, accelerating uphill. Also wakes things up during acceleration from dead stop, more of a positive launch when you put the pedal down than the factory buffered gradual throttle opening.
I dialed it back to Green 5 for errand-running just to get a feel for it, might try the Red settings after I get a good baseline.
Thanks for the great price, it was enough to pull me off the fence. | | Just ordered from Jason. This is my second 4runner and although I'm fairly satisfied with the power on and off road, there have been many times when I've either been trying to pull out into traffic, merge onto the highway or get around an 18 wheeler and the lack of throttle response has left me in some hairy situations. Looking forward to trying it out. | | At risk of sounding like a fan boy I absolutely LOVE the sprint booster and now I can't imagine my 4 runner without it. I debated the purchase for a year and now wish I would have installed it sooner.
I think I've settled on the green sport setting 5 after about 30 minutes of testing. Just to make sure it wasn't a placebo effect I turned it off and accelerated...there's definitely a big difference.
I ordered it last week and Jason shipped it right away. I removed the gas pedal with the 2 bolts during the install, so everything was much easier to reach. Took about 15 minutes to install, plus the 10 minutes of mandatory leave your door open time. | | I was on the fence for months reading threads and researching as much as I could about this mod before I got off the fence. This was mainly because I never owned a drive by wire vehicle before personally. I was also afraid this was just another one of those performance chips that all over eBay that are nothing more than a resistor or something that does very little in the way of performance other than some that just advance timing a bit. This device completely changed the feel of my driving experience in my runner, which had plenty of torque, but just didn't feel as fast as it should. Now, every time I get in it, I'm happy with the performance and it now feels like it should. The cool thing is that you can tailor the throttle response to suit your driving style. I tried several settings, one at a time, and left them for a couple of days to evaluate before moving on until I found the sweet spot for me. If my daughter or wife were to borrow the truck though, I would likely put it to a more stock setting just because they wouldn't be used to driving with that level of responsiveness. For me personally, it was the best money I've spent on any mod so far to this truck, other than maybe the exhaust, which also added greatly to the driving experience.
This was the missing link that brought everything else together, and I'm sure most just assume (like I did initially) that it's just a snake oil product. I like it so much that if it ever broke, I'd HAVE TO replace it immediately, lol! | | So, I took a sip of the Kool-Aid. Then after installing I drank the whole pitcher. Like others have said the install takes all of about 15 minutes. The first ten of which are spent with the door open waiting for the CANBUS system to work itself out. I took this opportunity to find a spot for the controller. Once the truck sat for 10 minutes I used the Squeeze-Push-Pull method and the accelerator pedal connector popped right off. I have only driven for about and hour so far but I like what I am experiencing.
Before I would tell the truck "Go!" and it would respond "Okay. I hear what you are saying but let's put a pin in that thought and discuss other ideas we can try together". Now I tell the truck "Go!" and it responds "OK!". I started at Green 9 and for now have settled on Red 5. I jumped around a little between Red 5 and Red 9 but for now I will keep it on Red 5 and see how I feel after some more seat time.
The real test was letting the wife drive it and see her reaction and it passed the wife test with flying colors. I asked her to drive my truck to dinner tonight. After pulling out of the driveway and then taking off from the stop sign at the end of our street she says "What's wrong with your truck?" I responded "What do you mean 'what's wrong with it?" To which she said "It doesn't suck to drive anymore" Did Sprint Booster give me more horsepower? No, and I didn't expect it to. Did it dramatically change the driving experience? Absolutely. | |
